About the Work Group on Autism Research and Training

Families

Helping families through research, training and direct clinical services is at the heart of the mission of the Kansas Center for Autism Research and Training (K-CART).

Since K-CART was launched in 2008, families throughout Kansas and the Greater Kansas City region have come forward to express their support of the University of Kansas for taking the lead in remediating what is arguably the most pervasive and perplexing medical condition of our time.

Led by Dr. Debra Kamps and Dr. Matthew Reese, joined by more than 40 distinguished KU researchers and clinicians, K-CART consolidates ongoing research and training and facilitates new efforts to promote collaborative and discovery research, attract promising new students and young researchers, train professionals, service providers and family members and expand clinical services.

K-CART Resources

Clinical: The Center for Child Health and Development at KU Medical Center diagnoses and develops treatment recommendations for children with developmental disabilities. Clinic teams assist families, teachers, doctors and others who work with them. Call 913.588.5900 to talk with the Intake Coordinator and/or Social Worker to determine which clinic is the most appropriate for your child.

Training: The Life Span Institute Autism Training Program is a new program directed by K-CART that trains professionals, paraprofessionals and family members in evidence-based strategies for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders to increase learning and decrease behaviors that interfere with learning.
